Harbormaster Hall of Fame

Harwich Port, Massachusetts

The "Hall of Fame" is located at the Harbormasters Office at Saquatucket Harbor Municipal Marina, 715 Main Street, Route 28, Harwich Port, Mass. This self-guided tour is normally open Monday through Saturday 8:30 to 5PM.

This display represents a series of 30 montages drawn and assembled by veteran harbormaster Tom Leach over the winter of 2005 as a living tribute to these dedicated individuals who monitor safety and control usage of their harbors and embayments. The show is based on the members of the Cape Cod and Islands Harbormasters Association and many assistant harbormasters. This exhibit was put together to show collectively the thousands of square miles of inshore waters protected by this group.

Also on display beginning March 2006 will be a display of the lightships of Nantucket Sound. This is part of ongoing research of Tom Leach a web-based paper project entitled The Lightship Channel and its historic impact on Harwich Port, Massachusetts.

The motto of the Harbormasters of Massachusetts is Semper vigilans or "always watchful" as these officers are always mindful of the safety of mariners. They are often first responders to near shore marine safety incidents and save millions of dollars of boats and equipment annually.
